PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Actor Scott Caan has been chosen to play boxer Vinny Paz on the silver screen.

The movie is the first of five major motion pictures in the works by Verdi-Corrente Productions here in Rhode Island.

Paz will tell the inspirational comeback story of Vinny Paz, who returned from a broken neck to recapture world championship gold in the ring.

Scott Caan is best known for his role in the Ocean's Eleven series, and also appeared in Gone in 60 Seconds, Varsity Blues, Brooklyn Rules, and Boiler Room.

The film will also feature actor Jerry Ferrara, who plays "Turtle" on the HBO series Entourage.  Ferrara will play Vinny's best friend.

And former N'Sync member Joey Fatone will also appear in the film.

Verdi-Corrente Productions says it is also in negotiations with actor James Caan for the role of Vinny's father, and actress Jamie Lynn Sigler to play Vinny's girlfriend.

The movie will be directed by Michael Corrente, and will be filmed in Rhode Island.

Production is expected to begin early next year.
