NEWPORT, RI (WPRI) - A replica of the first warship to sail under America’s Navy visits Newport this weekend.

The Sloop Providence is in Newport this weekend and is open to the public for free tours.

The Sloop set sail early Saturday from Providence down Narragansett Bay to Newport where it’s docked at Bowen’s Wharf.

The ship has been undergoing repairs in Providence and is getting ready to be used for charter trips and educational missions.

The Sloop Providence dates back to 1976 and has been used in two of the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movies.
