WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) – Democratic Congressman Jim Langevin and Republican Michael Riley will face off against each other in November after both candidates won both of their primaries Tuesday night.

Eyewitness News is projecting Langevin is the winner in primary against challenger John Matson. The WPRI.com Results Map shows with 100 percent of precincts reporting, Langevin got 74 percent of the vote, and Matson received 26 percent.

"In the coming months, I will keep emphasizing that we can only create jobs and boost our economy if our priorities are to strengthen the middle class and give everyone a fair opportunity to succeed," Langevin said in statement release Tuesday night. "I’m fighting for tax cuts for small businesses that create jobs here, efforts to train workers with the skills that match expanding industries, and projects that put people back to work rebuilding our infrastructure."

Michael Riley - in a four-way race with Michael Gardiner, Donald Robbio and Kara Russo - won the Republican nomination with 66 percent of the vote. Russo garnered 18 percent, Gardiner 10 percent and Robbio six percent .

Riley, a Narragansett resident, stressed his experience as an investment banker during his campaign and said he favors cutting government spending and revising the tax code to spur the economy.

"I'm on a mission," Riley said. "My idea is to take action. What we have is a guy (Langevin) who has been here for 12 years and hasn't produced a lot."

The 2nd Congressional District covers western Rhode Island and some central parts of Providence.
