RI Boy Scouts to 'scout' for food

The Boy Scouts of the Narragansett Council will be out in neighborhoods throughout Rhode Island handing out 350,000 bags on Saturday, October 27th.

Please put non-perishable, nutritious food in the bags and place them on your doorstep Sat., November 3 by 9 a.m.

Donors are encouraged to fill their bags with the food bank's most needed items:

  • Protein:
    • Canned soup
    • Tuna
    • Canned meats
    • Peanut butter & nuts
    • Canned or dried beans
  • Canned Goods:
    • Fruits & vegetables, including juices and tomato sauce
  • Carbohydrates:
    • Nutritious breakfast cereals
    • Whole wheat pasta
    • Rice
    • Crackers
    • Granola bars
    • Cheese & cracker packs

Preferred food items are also listed on the bag. All donations go directly to Rhode Island Community Food Bank .

The food bank needs 9.4 million pounds of food each year to feed the hungry people in the state.

If you do not receive a bag, food can be dropped off at any Rhode Island Walgreen's.
