(WPRI) - Workers at the Providence Animal Rescue League describe two year old Gina as a PARL favorite.

According to the staff at Providence Animal Rescue League :

Smokey is a 2 year old pint-sized male kitty who was brought to us because his owner was having surgery and was unable to care for him. It was pretty apparent from day one that he had the most comical personality in such a small package. Although, on closer inspection we noticed that his eyes were pretty cloudy.

After being examined by our shelter veterinarian, there was concern that he may have limited sight so we decided to make an appointment for him to have a consultation with a veterinary ophthalmologist. We were assured by the doctor that he did indeed have limited vision and there was the possiblity of cataracts in the future. We also found out that he had a condition where his eyelid needed to be corrected and was painful and making him uncomfortable. After careful discussion we believed that Smokey was worth the $600.00 expense.

Smokey had his surgery and has completely recovered in one of our loving foster homes. He is now back at the shelter and is available adoption and looking for new digs to call his own. Says his foster mom, "Personality wise, Smokey has no problems dealing with new environments or changes in his environment. He is always interested in whatever animals have been around him and loves chasing toys. He also loves to sleep in your lap and he sleeps in bed every night.

Other than a couple of funny missed steps off the coffee table, he has no problems going up and down stairs, maneuvering through rooms and, most importantly, finding a litter box. He is a very brave and curious boy, which is wonderful. Lastly, he comes when you call him and hes also talkative which is also helpful to know where he is" Smokey is an amazing personality and meets and greets people, cats and dogs with confidence and curiosity. He's a little clown and has made us laugh a lot with his fantastic attitude and personality. Thanks to our donors to the Betsy's Fund we are able to give wonderful animals such as this a much deserved second chance!
