CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) - Hunger doesn't take the weekend off. That's why Blessings in a Backpack is hosting its second annual charity event.
Blessings in Backpack program feeds kids that typically have little or no food on the weekends. Backpacks are filled with ready-to eat, nutritious food. Just $80 feeds a child for the entire school year.
Help feed a hungry child by joining us for a big pajama party on Feb. 10 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet. It’s a multi-generational day out for women and girls.
Wear your PJs, and shop the Alex and Ani bangle bar, eat lunch, and take part in the live auction and raffle, while also enjoying music by DJ Nook and a special hip hop performance.
Event Tickets:
All proceeds from this event will go to feeding kids who qualify for free and/or reduced meals in school during the weekends at The Highlander Charter School, Community Preparatory School and Meeting Street, San Miguel School and Sophia Academy. These kids typically have little or no food on the weekends and the program ensures that the kids come back to school on Mondays better nourished and ready to learn. Better test scores, improved reading skills, positive behavior, improved health and increased attendance have all been attributed to the success of this program. $80 feeds a child for the school year. Every Friday, the children receive a backpack with staples that require little to no preparation. They return with their backpacks Monday, ready to learn. Blessings in a Backpack is a 501 C (3) non-profit organization currently feeding over 59,000 children in 390 schools in 35 U.S. States and three countries.
