Vince DeMentri co-anchors Eyewitness News this Morning and Eyewitness News at Noon on WPRI 12. He is also the co-host of The Rhode Show on FOX Providence.
No stranger to the Ocean State, Vince was a fixture in Rhode Island news during the early 90’s.
As investigative reporter at WPRI 12, Vince was one of the original members of the Target 12 Investigators. He, along with the late Jack White, helped expose corruption and wrong doing across the state.
One of his most famous stories was the award winning series Money for Nothing…an undercover report exposing state workers goofing off on the tax payer dime. During his time in Providence, Vince won dozens of awards, including three New England Emmys.
Soon after leaving WPRI, Vince began reporting in New York City. In fact, nearly half his career was spent covering stories in the Gotham – including that fateful day of September 11, 2001. Vince was one of the first reporters to reach Ground Zero, moments after the terrorist attacks. He and his cameraman barely escaped WTC #7, fleeing the building just minutes before it collapsed.
In the months that followed 9/11, Vince gave viewers an emotional look inside a national tragedy. His award winning reporting included an interview with two Port Authority officers, who survived in the rubble for 30 hours after the towers fell. Their story was the inspiration for the film World Trade Center, starring Nicholas Cage.
Also in New York, Vince had the honor of interviewing Mother Theresa, as she visited one of her missionaries in the Bronx. This would end up being one of her last television interviews, as Mother Theresa died shortly after the story aired.
In addition to his time spent in Providence and New York, Vince has also reported and anchored at TV stations in Philadelphia and Detroit. Vince is excited to be back in Rhode Island as it holds a special place in his heart.
