DIGITAL INTERN

Become a part of our digital team! Work within the new media department on development and maintenance of station's web sites - wpri.com and foxprovidence.com as well as our station’s other digital products. Responsibilities to include:

• Working side by side with an award-winning team of professionals on what the Associated Press has called “The Best Television Website”
• Writing local articles for our websites, mobile and digital products
• Shooting video and/or photographs for the website
• Editing and preparing news video for digital display using AVID and other video tools
• Blogging
• Social Media
• News gathering supplemental digital content
• Design and feature suggestions(and possibly creation) for sites
• Miscellaneous administrative functions

NEWSROOM INTERN

As a News Intern, you'll not only get an inside look at how we gather news and produce newscasts, you will help make it all happen!

Learn firsthand how a news story gets on television. As a Newsroom Intern, you will work one on one with the news staff — including photographers, video editors, reporters, producers, and assignment editors. You'll see what happens behind the scenes when there's breaking news! Interns are expected to keep a working knowledge of current events and be eager to get involved in the news gathering process. You will earn a great base of skills for an entry-level television newsroom position.

Within the WPRI/WNAC newsroom, we have a limited number of specialized internship positions available for candidates with specific interests and backgrounds. When applying, please indicate if you are particularly interested in any of the following:

Problem Solver Susan Hogan and Call for Action get results! Susan Hogan is the leading Consumer Affairs reporter in the Providence television market. As an intern, you'll be working on the consumer stories that matter to Southern New Englanders.

• Target 12 Investigators
If you're ready to do some in-depth research, assist in undercover shoots, and help with some hard investigative digging, then apply for an internship with the Target 12 Investigators. You'll help Investigative Reporter Tim White and his team as they expose the truth through compelling stories. Please note: This internship requires exceptional ability to keep select sensitive information confidential.

THE RHODE SHOW INTERN
Wanted: Hard-working interns for the innovative new morning show on WPRI 12. You must be interested in new trends, local happenings, entertainment, lifestyle, cooking, technology, and FUN. You'll assist in segment planning and shoots, greeting guests, prop setup, and adding web content. As an intern, you'll also have opportunities to assist at promotional events. Ability to work morning weekday hours is preferred, but not necessary. Send resume to: cpeabody@wpri.com.

PRODUCTION INTERN - Students will be allowed to observe studio production, post production, computer graphics and electronic field production (EFP). The student will be able to observe a live newscast from the control room or the studio on headsets, and will be able to assist with set-up, lighting and breakdown of sets. Limited "hands-on" access and operation of studio cameras, character generator systems, switcher, tape machines and related equipment. Student may be allowed to participate in remote production and may change their schedule to do so, with prior approval. Six students per semester. Send resume to cpeabody@wpri.com

PROMOTION INTERN - Student will assist in the overall promotion of the station and its image by writing public service copy, movie opens, press releases, biographies and promotion copy. Production work may include screening tapes, assisting in shoots, running teleprompter and observing post-production. The student will learn Traffic Department operations, assist in placing promotional material on the daily play log, answer viewer mail and mail tapes. During special events the student may help out on location as a representative of the station by handing out literature and helping other staff members. ENGINEERING INTERN - The student may observe operations in Master Control, Videotape and Audio. The intern duties may include operation of videotape machines, setup live shots using 2-way communications and microwave equipment, and perform simple setup of studio cameras for air. Other duties may include operation of setup of microphones in the studio and in the field, and simple preventative maintenance of electronic equipment. PUBLIC AFFAIRS INTERN - Will assist Public Service Director in organizing community event mail for WPRI and WNAC. Student may research and write "Community Calendar" a public service announcement for upcoming non-profit events. Updating WPRI and WNAC's Community Web Site, reviewing PSA's (Public Service Announcements) and "tagging" them in post-production with station logo will also be a part of the student's duties. RESEARCH AND MARKETING INTERN - Will assist in preparing information for prospective clients. Students use qualitative research to prepare presentations for account executives, and use the Nielsen ratings book to find success stories for both stations. The student may prepare graphs and charts using Nielsen and other information for both sales and all-station use. Computer skills, marketing and research background are preferred. Student should be familiar with ratings and media research and the use of the Internet. One student per semester. Send resume to cpeabody@wpri.com

METEOROLOGY INTERN - Work along with the Meteorologist on staff days or evenings, under the time constraints of the upcoming newscast. Utilize weather computer, access and analyze raw data and prepare daily forecasts under the supervision of the Meteorologist on duty. Student will learn to interpret satellite and radar information, as well as hurricane forecasting. Other duties may include building on-air computer graphics, Internet surfing for weather information and preparing National Weather Service printouts for the next newscast. SPORTS INTERN - Will work under the sports director's supervision learning to write sports for broadcast television as well as edit and archive sports highlights. Students will chart games and incoming video feeds, and may go to games and chart action. Other duties may include locating archive footage, input data into the news computer, and rip script.
